Rather you are choosing someone to help you with a task/answer a question, choosing new partners for an activity, or reviewing concepts…check out “The Hat”. This is an application which allows you to literally pull a random name/word (or a pair of names/words) out of a hat.
Go to this link to download: Downloads and search for The Hat 2.3. Note: Uncheck the box asking if you want to install the Harmony Hollow Software Toolbar. The hat icon will appear on your desktop. Click on the hat and enter your students’ names or a list of words. You can click on either Pick Individual Names or Pick Pairs of Names or simply click on the hat on the taskbar. Click on Pick and a name will pop out of the hat.
“The Hat” application is only for Windows users. For all you Mac users, check out this website: Fruit Machine Type in your names/words and then click on the tab that reads: “fruit machine”. Turn up the volume if you wish.
