- Use Google Spreadsheets to automatically generate QR codes for Text and URLs.
Step by step how to:1.Go to: HCPS Google Docs2.Create a new spreadsheet. - 3.Label Column A “Text or URL.” (or another heading)
4.Label Column B “QR Code.” (or another heading)
- 5.Resize the columns and rows so they look like the screenshot below:
- 6.Enter some text or URLs in column A. ( I entered "Hello", HCPS website, and "the correct answer is 53.75")
Entering the formula:
- 1.In Cell B2, enter this formula (or copy and paste it.)--HERE'S THE MAGIC!!!!!
=image("https://chart.googleapis.com/chart?chs=150x150&cht=qr&chl=" & A2) - 2.Press the Enter key on your keyboard.
- 3.A QR code will appear!
- 4. Click once on cell B2 to select it.
- 5. Click the tiny square in the bottom-right corner of the cell and drag down to fill down the formula. This is do a "copy-fill down" into the cells below.
- 6. Resize the rows and columns to make the QR codes larger or smaller.
Notes / Ideas:- -Use a form to populate a spreadsheet with URLs from students or other teachers; then add the formula to quickly create a QR code for each URL.
- -Create a quick QR scavenger hunt. Just enter the clues in column A, and then print and “hide” the QR codes.
- Print the QR code list as a handout for class or for a presentation.-After you have created one spreadsheet of QR codes, you can quickly change column A...column B will AUTOMATICALLY populate new QR codes as you change column A.
