PLAY OF THE WEEK--Using Google Spreadsheets to Create QR Codes

  1. Use Google Spreadsheets to automatically generate QR codes for Text and URLs.

    Step by step how to:
    1.Go to: HCPS Google Docs
    2.Create a new spreadsheet.
  2. 3.Label Column A “Text or URL.” (or another heading)
4.Label Column B “QR Code.” (or another heading)
  1. 5.Resize the columns and rows so they look like the screenshot below:

    1. 6.Enter some text or URLs in column A. ( I entered "Hello", HCPS website, and "the correct answer is 53.75")
    Entering the formula:

    1. 1.In Cell B2, enter this formula (or copy and paste it.)--HERE'S THE MAGIC!!!!!
      =image("https://chart.googleapis.com/chart?chs=150x150&cht=qr&chl=" & A2)
    2. 2.Press the Enter key on your keyboard.
    3. 3.A QR code will appear!
    4. 4. Click once on cell B2 to select it.
    5. 5. Click the tiny square in the bottom-right corner of the cell and drag down to fill down the formula. This is do a "copy-fill down" into the cells below.
      1. 6. Resize the rows and columns to make the QR codes larger or smaller.

      Notes / Ideas:
      1. -Use a form to populate a spreadsheet with URLs from students or other teachers; then add the formula to quickly create a QR code for each URL.
      2. -Create a quick QR scavenger hunt. Just enter the clues in column A, and then print and “hide” the QR codes.
      - Print the QR code list as a handout for class or for a presentation.
-After you have created one spreadsheet of QR codes, you can quickly change column A...column B will AUTOMATICALLY populate new QR codes as you change column A.
