ReadWorks - Boring Title, Awesome Site

Do you ever wish you had texts for struggling or advanced readers? Do you wish you had paired fiction/ nonfiction texts that align with content? Do you integrate reading into other subjects? ReadWorks is a wonderful tool for grades K-12. ReadWorks is a free website where you can find articles based on subject, Lexile, and/or grade level. There is the option to print these articles or you can create a class and assign these articles to students. Students can use their Google account to sign in, making it even easier!

Articles give you vocabulary words and a question set. If you assign the articles digitally, ReadWorks automatically scores the multiple choice questions for you. There are also related articles, making finding articles with similar topics but at different level easy.

There are also several types of articles that you can search for and assign to your students. I love the options.

Audio - Some articles have an audio version that reads the article aloud to the students. Use this filter to find only these articles.

Paired Texts - You can search for paired text where you get a fictional story and a nonfiction article. I love this for integration.

Step Reads - This is an article that has an easier to read version ( lower Lexile ). This is an easy way to differentiate or find texts that are about grade level appropriate content at a lower Lexile level.

ReadWorks also has an An Article a Day and a program for getting the most out of it in your classroom. Check out the link to learn more. The best thing about ReadWorks is that it is 100% free to use! If you have any questions or would like help getting started, see your friendly ITRT!
